The Calesas, an old Merida tradition

In Mérida the calesa presence, popular known as "coche de caballo" (horse car), is an important part of the urban image and landscape of a very traditional city.

The calesas can be seen in postcards, pictures and photographs, next to a elegant yucatecan "mestiza" wearing the beautiful "terno".

The tourist like to try this singular way of transport because is attractive and offers a nice ride across some main streets of the city.

In Mérida is very often to see a happy tourists and heard them talking in diferent languages, as long as they travel in a calesa by the "paseo de Montejo" while the driver kindly is telling them about the beautiful antique houses from ancient times that are able to capture de tourists awesome expressions.

A ride in calesa is without a doubt one of the many attractions of the wonderful and unique city of Mérida.
