The calesas o calandrias are
vehicles of animal traction, they were used as work instrument and as a way of transport,
today, they are a used in many countries to transport tourists.
In Mérida the calesa presence, popular
known as "coche de caballo" (horse car), is an important part of the urban image
and landscape of a very traditional city.
The calesas can be seen in postcards,
pictures and photographs, next to a elegant yucatecan "mestiza" wearing the
beautiful "terno".
