
The Hacienda Chichen Resort,

Built at the heart of
Chichen-Itzá itsel (not within the village of Piste)
the
hacienda is just a few steps from the Mayan pyramids' southeats entrance.
The property has 18 standar guestrooms and sixs suites, furnished with
air-condition, dehumidfier units, servi-bar, and elegant decor to bring
each guest the convenience and comfort of modern living and excellent
service. Nowadays the hacienda's main building, exquisitely decorated with
Colonial sculptures and Mayan artwork, houses the resorts' formal lobby,
chimney living room, library, bar and
formal dinning areas.
Authentic Mayan temple
stones were used to built the hacienda, many of which are exposed at the
main building or Casco's west facade and the exterior walls of Morley's
Cottage. Originally, The Hacienda Chichen operated as a cattle ranch. In
the
XIX Century it became a sisal plantation. By the early XX Century, it
became Mr. Edward Thompson's home, who helped by a team of divers, lead
the Cenote Sagrado's dredging where gold ornaments, human bones, copal
inciense, sacrifical knives an other Pre-Columbian national treasures were
found.
The Carnegie Institute
established its Maya Archaeological Expedition headquarters at the
Hacienda Chichen in 1923, Rustic cottages were built, within the
hacienda's main garden, to house for over 20 years, the Institute's
archaeologist and research team. Today these cottages
have been remodel without loosing their charm and essence to bring comfort
as guestrooms. In addition to Mr. Thompson's plant collection the
Institute planted new palms, flowering and fruit trees, many of wich are
still part of the gardens.
